Primitive Pits
США
Добавлен 17 май 2018
We're a commercial, horizontal offset fabrication company that builds smokers for some of the top BBQ establishments in the US with a focus on central Texas style BBQ cookers.
Static counter weight doors are a proven winner
In late 2020, we released a static counter weight door and felt a video highlighting the functionality was in store. If you are ordering a trailer, it is a great feature to have added.

Primitive Pits Babe vs Workhorse Pits 1975
Просмотров 9 тыс.3 года назад
We are asked multiple times per day what is the difference between our Primitive Pits Babe and the 1975 from our sister company Workhorse Pits. Both are 24" diameter smokers burning plus or minus five degrees. JD breaks it down a little better in this video. It's great barbecue we are after, but it doesn't hurt to have a unit that is easy on the eyes.

Any plans to offer this for the 1975?
The 1975 door is heavy as heck. Needs this system or a counterweight especially if you are older than 60 years.
I just got my Workhorse 75 and there is no way my wife can open door, its extremely heavy, it definitely needs a counterweight. I hope JD designs one that we can get a local welder to build one.
@@JorgeValdesPhD i have a 1975 and if you ask JD how to open it, he will show you and it will literally break your brain. I almost did not get a 75 and then i picked it up and met him . Opens easier each cook
@@darrenc3895 I have no idea how he opens it, I am having a friend who is a master welder design a counterweight similar to the one on my Yoder 1500 Pellet Smoker, see how it works out. ThanKS
@@JorgeValdesPhD Call them. There must be a video.
Is the name of the model the Jason mamoa? Or is this his?
It is his. JD spoke about it on Kevin Kelly's channel.
These look great! Are counterbalance available for the 1975? I worry about an older self having the shoulder strength to heft it up.
75 is great I'm in SC one day I'll buy from you.
The Babe is a pretty sweet looking rig, it's amazing how few videos of The Babe are on youtube, I wish more owners would upload their own videos of these things...
I got a babe I will upload a detail video soon
@@SmokeBark Nice thanks man!
@@SmokeBark Yes please upload Dying to see more. Won’t get mine till October!
@@daherfamily7163 nice man! Did you get the top grill grate or the cowboy grill? ironically you said that I already shot the video
@@SmokeBark Nice! Yes I did get the upper rack and the cowboy grill. Was going back n forth between the babe and the 1975 but finally decided on the babe.
How much is the work horse
Still waiting on my 1975T can’t wait
So am I correct that the Workhorse wall thickness as almost twice that of the Babe? Is there any benefit of the curved/concave design from propane tank? Otherwise it comes down to size and/or looks correct?
The wall thickness of the Workhorse is nearly double than the Babe. In science talk, the important areas of the Babe (firebox and manifold) are 5/16. There is a micro difference in air flow between the two. Micro difference, meaning we can tell the minute air flow difference in the lab, but not enough to sway one over the other. Many people do choose the Workhorse based on the wall thickness and overall look. It is just more robust.
I would absolutely love either one of these pits, but the pricing is a little confusing. The babe is $2600 while the newer looking workhorse 1957 counterpart is only $2k.
The Primitive is 3x longer of a build. Using a repurpose tank vs raw material is why the pricing is different.
Thank you JD, been waiting to see this one. Great video as always.
I prefer the look of the babe but they are both beauties!
A think of beauty! I would love to get my hands on of these!
